Bobby Neu starred in multiple sports  at St. Mel High School in Chicago.  Neu remained in Chicago for college, attending DePaul University. After a disappointing sophomore year,  Neu blossomed into DePaul’s most prolific scorer in his junior and senior seasons. Following his college career, Neu spent the first two years of his professional career with Hammond  in the National Basketball League. He led the  All-Americans in scoring both seasons and  earned second-team All-NBL honors in 1941. He served in the army  for three years during World War II. After the war,  Neu played his final season of professional basketball with his hometown Chicago Gears.
