ECKY CALDER

In the spring of 1913,  Eckhardt “Ecky” Calder, a student at St. Lawrence University, a tiny school in upstate New York,  was named to the  All-American team and chosen as the Helms Foundation College Basketball Player of the Year. In 1914. Calder transferred to Columbia University where he starred in football and basketball for two seasons. Calder remained active in basketball for the remainder of the decade, but never attained the prominence of his college years.
