STATISTICS & HISTORY
John Nelle was a star basketball player for Hamilton High School in Brooklyn. After service in the Army during World War II, Nelle played a smattering of pro basketball league games with modest results. Nelle did find basketball stardom, however, playing in the tough Greater New York City YMCA Basketball League, where he was a standout for the perennial powerhouse Eastern District YMCA for eleven seasons.
