STATISTICS & HISTORY
Carl “Moon” Klinzing started his basketball career in 1915 as a member of the Pittsburgh South High School team that won the city scholastic championship. It was the beginning of a career that would keep Klinzing in the forefront of the Pittsburgh sports for the next two decades. After completing his senior basketball season at Duquesne University in the spring of 1922, Klinzing signed to play for The Second -Story Morrys. The team was so named because they were sponsored by a downtown Pittsburgh clothing haberdasher named Morry Goldman whose apparel shop was on the second floor. He became known as “Second Story Morry” and his team took the same name. In the early 1920s, the Second Story Morrys were one of the best basketball teams in Pittsburgh and Klinzing was the team’s best player. In 1926, Klinzing led the Morrys to the championship of Central Basketball League. After retiring as a player in the early 1930’s, Klinzing became a well-respected referee.
