STATISTICS & HISTORY
In an era when talented high school basketball players seldom strayed far from home, Sam Leibowitz, a star at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, set some kind of unofficial distance record when he enrolled at the University of Oregon in 1933. Leibowitz was a two-year starter at Oregon, before he returned to the East in 1937 where he played AAU and professional basketball through the mid-1940’s.
