Frederick “Knocky” Thomas was a basketball and baseball star at McKinley Tech High School in Washington, DC. Thomas also played varsity basketball and baseball for three years at the University of Maryland. Thomas had a brief stint in pro basketball, 11 games for the Washington Heurich Brewers, and played minor league baseball for four seasons.
