In the mid-1930’s, Nat “Lovey” Brown played basketball at Tilden High School in Brooklyn. Brown was a starter, but never a standout. Brown also played basketball for Army teams while serving during in World War II. In 1944, Brown rounded out his basketball career with three games for Washington in the American Basketball League.  With those three games his basketball career as a player was over, but his involvement in the sport would go on for many years.In the early 1950’s , Brown’s name appeared  in the sports section of every newspaper in the country. Tilden was heavily involved in the fixing of college basketball games, a scandal that rocked the sport and ended the careers of some of the most famous players of the era, including Kentucky All-Americans Alex Groza and Ralph Beard.
