Herbert “Babe” Barna Barna hailed from Anmoore, West Virginia, where he was a three-sport star at Bridgeport High School. At the University of West Virginia, Barna was a starting end on the football team for three years and, as a senior, captained the 1936 team. Barna also played three seasons of basketball for the Mountaineers, earning two letters. Barna also starred on the baseball team , posting a .408 WVU career batting average. Barna played professional baseball from 1937 until 1952 including five seasons in the Major league.
