Abe Yourist was a  four sport letterwinner at Woodward High School in Toledo. Yourist replicated his scholastic  success at Heidelberg College, where he he earned three letters each in football, basketball, baseball and track. The 1930 football team swept through eight games without a defeat to win the Ohio Conference Championship. Yourist earned All-Ohio recognition that season. He led  the Heidelberg defense that held the opposition to just 20 total points. Yourist was also was  a standout in the basketball team, earning three letters and serving as team captain in 1931-32, his senior year. After graduating from the ‘Heidelberg in 1932, Yourist played three games with the Chicago Bears  at the start  of a professional football career that spanned seven seasons, mostly with minor league teams.  Yourist also played professional basketball. Yourist spent four seasons with the Crimson Coaches professional cage squad and played part of one season with Babe Deidrickson’s All-Americans. Yourst attained his greatest athletic success as a longtime professional wrestler.   Yourist performed against all the  top wrestlers during a career that spanned three decades.
