Bill Levine played varsity basketball at CCNY for two and a half seasons. He was captain of the 1944-45 squad, but was dropped from team in February because of scholastic dificultics. A few weeks later, he found himself testifying before a panel of attorneys about possible irregularities involving betting on on college basketball games at Madison Square Garden. Nothing came of the 1945 investigation, but six years later another investigation would uncover a scandal that involved the CCNY team that had just completed an unprecedented sweep of both the NCAA Basketball Tournament and the National Invitation Tournament. The scandal involved the Beavers and and six other schools and over thirty players.
