Bill Sumerix was a star center at Garfield high School in Akron, Ohio. For the next decade, Sumerix was a fixture on the top amateur and independent pro teams in the Akron area. In February of 1941, Sumerix was signed to play one game for theHammond Ciesar All-Americans when they arrived in Akron without the mandatory number of players for a National Basketball League game. Sumerix scored two points in his first and only major league game.
