Robert “Bob” Morris lettered in basketball,football, baseball, and track at East Stroudsburg Normal College. Morris was a highly successful high school basketball coach in Pawtuucket, Rhode Island for sixteen years. In 1946, Morris was simultaneously hired as the Director of the Pawtucket Public schools and as the head coach for the Providence Steamrollers who had just signed up for the the inaugural season of the Basketball Association of America. Morris managed to extract a respectable 28-32 record from an undermanned squad. In April of 1947, Morris resigned as coach of the Steamrollers to accept a position as head basketball coach Brown University where he remained through 1954, posting a 61-87 record.
