Bobby Dorn was a basketball star at Memorial High School in West New York, New Jersey. Dorn was standout during  his only  varsity season at Temple University. Dorn  attracted alsoosiderable attention playing for the powerful Manhattan Beach 3rd Naval District Coast Guard team during World War II. After the war, Dorn was a top-ten scorer in tthe American Basketball League for two seasons, before quiting midway through his third ABL season to concentrate on a new electronics business that he and former teammate Dick Nochimson had started.
