STATISTICS & HISTORY
Bobby Wanzer played basketball at Benjamin Franklin High School in New York City. His college career at Seton Hall University spanned from 1941 to 1947 separated by three years in the Marines during World War II. Wanzer played for the Rochester Royals for nine seasons, where he teamed in the backcourt with Hall of Famer, Bob Davies. The Royals were one of the most successful teams of the era and won the 1950-51 National Basketball Association. He was a five-time All-Star with the Royals and was named to the All-NBA second-team three consecutive times. During the 1951-52 season, Wanzer became the first player to ever make over 90% of his free throws. Wanzer coached the Royals for three and half seasons, the first two seasons as a player-coach. His overall record was 98-136. In 1962, Wanzer became the first coach at St.John Fisher College in Pittsfield, New York were he remained for 24 seasons and also served as the school’s athletic director. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987.
