CHARLIE SEABRIGHT

A native of Wheeling, W.Va., Charlie Seabright was an all-state athlete in football, basketball and baseball at Benwood Union High School  before entering WEst Virginia University in 1938.   Seabright was a versatile athlete at West Virginia University  from 1938-41, earning three letters in football, two in basketball and two in baseball.   He is considered one of the two best players from that era . Seabright had a six-year career in the National Football League. He played for the Cleveland Rams for one season and the PIttsburgh Steelers for five seasons.Seabright began his professional football career with the Cleveland Rams in 1941.  but was out of  football from 1942 until 1944 to serve in combat in World War II .  Seabright  played both offense and defense with the Steelers from 1946–1950, including stints as the starting quarterback Seabright started every game for the 1947 Steelers in a season that ended in a one-game playoff to eventual champion Philadelphia. Seabright was one of the last NFL players to play both offense and defense.
