Jake Beaver graduated from Schenectady High School in 1910. He starred , along with his twin brother, Dave, in football, basketball and baseball at Union College in Schenectady. Union College posted a 35-5 record in basketball during the Beaver brothers’ three varsity seasons. In the fall of 1915, Jake moved to New York City to enter grad school at Columbia Universty. During the next three years, Beaver played a handful of professional games in New York and for Nanticoke in the Pennsylsvania State Basketball League while attending Columbia. Beaverreceived a PhD in Chemistry and taught at Columbia until his retirement in 1961.
