Johnny Bianco was a star basketball and baseball player at Prospect Heights High School in Brooklyn. In June of 1939 , just a few days after graduation from high school, he signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees. Bianco was a minor league pitcher for six seasons stretched out over ten war-interrupted years After the war, Bianco had two brief stints in professional basketball. During the 1947-47 season, he appeared in ten games for the Toledo Jeeps in the National Basketball League. After spending the summer of 1947 pitching for the Portland Indians of the Pacific Coast Baseball League, Biaco signed as the player-coach of the Portland Indians in the Pacific Coast Basketball League. Portland. Biabco resigned fster the Indians won just two of their first nine games.
