STATISTICS & HISTORY
Kid Eberlein debuted in professional basketball with the famed 23rd St. Wanderers in 1900. Due to his inexperience, he made only brief appearances in two games the first season. The following season Eberlein was given a second chance to crack the Wanderers’ roster. He surprised everyone when he dislodged five-year starter Bill Reed from the lineup and became the Wanderers’ top scorer and finished seventh overall in National Basketball League scoring. Eberlein was a fine set shooter, but his greatest addition to the Wanderers was his speed and agility. In 1902-03, he again finished among the NL’s top scorers. Eberlein was strongly influenced by the great Sandy Shields and closely emulated his aggressive style of play. When the NBL disbanded, Eberlein played briefly in the Hudson River Basketball League and the Western Massachusetts League. During the next five seasons, he toured with the barnstorming Wanderers. In 1909-10, Eberlein signed for a two-year stint with Yonkers of the HRL. He enjoyed two satisfying seasons and finished among the top-ten scorers each season. In 1911, he jumped to the New York State Basketball League were he finished up his career.
