STATISTICS & HISTORY
For much of his nineteen-year professional basketball career, Leo Malone was rated as one of the best centers in the game. When he was just sixteen years old, Malone was recruited to join the St. James Triangles, one of the most powerful independent teams in Brooklyn. Malone possessed a combination of size and athleticism that was unique for the era. He was a clever defender and was a decent shot away from the basket. He also was a fine free-throw shooter. During the peak years of his career, just after World War I, he played for a half dozen teams each season and was busy every night of the week on a court somewhere in Connecticut, New York, or Eastern Pennsylvania.
