Manny Hyatt grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the youngest of the three basketball playing Hyatt brothers. His oldest, brother, Chuck, was one of the greatest AAU players in the history of the the game and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Manny ‘s skills were considerably less than his more famous brother, but he was good enough to star at Schenley High School, a Pittsburgh scholastic powerhouse and play independent basketball for a dozen seasons. During the the 1938-39 season, Manny  along with his other brother,  Art, headed up the Hyatt Big-Five, a strong independent team.
