Robert “Bobby” Mayham enjoyed a decade long pro basketball career. Mayham played for many years alongside Harry Hough , one of the greatest player of of the era, whom he had known since they were both teenagers in Trenton, New Jersey. Mayham’s quiet, confident style of play counterbalanced Hough’s often overheated on-court personality. Mayham died, of tuberculosis, in May of 1914, at the age of 29. He was memorialized as a outstanding player who was admired for his sportsmanship in an era when basketball was a very rough, and at times, brutal sport.
