Jimmy Gordon played professional basketball for twelve seasons. He played in the majors for portions of five seasons, but the majority of his career took place in New Jersey where he starred on powerful independent teams such as the Newark Temple B’Nai and the Newark Hebrew Club. In 1933, when Newark acquired a franchise in the American Basketball League, Gordon, who was immensely popular in his home town, was one of the first players signed.

Wilfred Goodwin was known as “Bill” when he attended high school and later acquired the moniker “Pop” when he played professional basketball. Goodwin was an outstanding athlete at St.John’s Prep in Brooklyn. He was the star center for three years on the basketball team that was rated one of the best in the New York Metropolitan area. Goodwin served in the army for four years during World War II. While in the service, he he made a strong impression at the World Pro Basketball Tournament when he scored 13 points in a game against the Brooklyn Eagles. After the war, Goodwin was signed by the Providence team of the newly formed Basketball Association of America. Goodwin, who had to play near the basket to be effective, did not have the size to succeed in the BAA and was released midway through his second season with the Steamrollers. Goodwin had greater success in the minor leagues where he remained active for four more seasons. During the 1949-50 season, Goodwin was a key member of the Williamsport squad that won the Eastern Basketball League Championship.
