Gil Fitch was a basketball, baseball, and soccer star at Philadelphia Central High School. Fitch was a three-year varsity basketball starter at Temple University. During his three years on the team, Temple compiled an 48-14 record. Gil was a solid supporting player during some of the best years of the famed Philadelphia Sphas. In addition to his duties as a player, for many years Fitch was also the leader of the orchestra that played after all the Sphas’ home games at the Broadwood Hotel ballroom.
