Francis “Roxy” Burke was q football star at Thompsonville High School in Connecticut. Burke attended Holy Cross for one year were he played foorball and baseball. Burke served in the Marines during WWI and then attended Yale for one year where he played baseball. Burke appeared in one game for the Thompsonville basketball team during the 192-23 season,but his true passion was for football. In 1924, he organized the Thompsonville Grays’ Football Association. From 1924 until 1936, Burke coached the Grays who bacame a regional semi-professional powerhose. Burke was Enfield City tax collector from 1928-1948 and later the Thompsonville postmaster from 1950-1968.
