Russell Cardosi was star basketball player at Canton, Illinois High School. In his senior year, Cardosi led Canton to second place in the 1928 United State High School Basketball Championship played in Chicago. Cardosi was named a first-team high school All-American. Cardosi retuened to Chicago eleven years later as a member of the Canton Bulldogs to play in the professional World Basketball Tournament. Cardosi scored one point in a twenty-one point loss to the New York Rens.
