Tommy Nisbet was a basketball an baseball star at Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois. Nisbet along with running mate, Lou Boudreau, led Thornton High School to the 1933 Illinois State High School basketball Championship. Nisbet and Boudreau also were teammates on the the University of Illinois basketball team. Nisbet had considerable success as a playmaking guard on the court at Illinois, but his college career was hampered by eligibility issues. He was ineligible his first two years , and lost his eligibility again midway through his senior year. Nisbet briefly played pro basketball along side Boudreau, who soon after retired from basketball to concentrate on a professional baseball career that land him in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Nisbet became a successful high school basketball coach. He coached Thornton High School to six Suburban League basketball championships and five second place finishes.
