FRANK CARSWELL

Frank Carswell was a scholastic basketball and baseball star at Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, Texas. He attended Rice University were he also excelled in sports.  Carswell served in in the Marines for four years during World War II.  Carswell played six professional basketball games with two teams during the 1947-48 season. His career in professional baseball spanned 27 seasons. Carswell played fourteen seasons of minor league professional baseball. He retired in 1957 with a lifetime batting average of .337.  Carswell appeared in 16 games for the Detroit Tigers in 1953 and batted .263. After retiring as a player, Carswell spent another thirteen years as a minor league manager.
