Hank Greenberg was a baseball and basketball star at James Monroe High School in the Bronx, New York. Greenberg, along with future Philadelphia Sphas’ star Shikey Gotthoffer, led James Monroe to the New York City basketball championship. Greenberg played major league baseball for thirteen seasons. He hit 331 home runs and had a lifetime .313 batting average. In 1956, he was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
