Milton “Mickey” Gross  was one of the most popular  sports figures in Pittsburgh throughout the 1920’s.  Gross first came to prominence as the star of Pittsburgh’s South High School, a scholastic basketball powerhouse.  Gross attended the University of Pittsburgh where he he earned a degree in dentistry, but did not compete in athletics at the school after his freshmen year. Gross did play independent basketball on teams in Pittsburgh for most of the decade, primarily with the famed Pittsburgh Second Story Morrys.
