Moe Udall served in World War II and then returned to the University of Arizona where he starred in basketball for three seasons. Udall played one year of professional basketball with the Denver Nuggets and then returned to the University of Arizona to attend law school. Udall served as a Congressman from the state of Arizona for thirty-one years (1961-1991). In 1976,Udall ran in the primaries against Jimmy Jimmy Carter for the Democratic presidential nomination.
