Murray Heilweil,  an outstanding prep basketball player,  attended St.John’s University in Brooklyn for four years, but never tried out for the basketball team.   Aftter graduation, Heilweil played for the Brooklyn Union Temple team ,a powerful AAU team. Heileweil was one of the fastest and  smoothest pivot men in the Metropolitan area. He remained active on AAU and independent teams throughout the 2930’s. Heilweil completed his career with one  season in the American Basketball League, playing for the Wilkes-Barre Barons.
