STATISTICS & HISTORY
Ollie McLaughlin was rated as one of the best standing guards of the first decade of professional basketball. The standing guard was the primary defender and often did not join the offense when his team had the ball. In an era of man-to-man defense, the standing guard was always assigned to guard the oppositions best player. During his five years in the Central Basketball League, McLaughlin faced off against the very best scorers in professional basketball. Although he was still much in demand as player, McLaughlin retired in 1913 to devote full time to his business interests.
