Harold “Beggs” Snyder was an integral part of the Pittsburgh sports scene for five decades. Snyder, who was five feet, six inches tall, and while active as an athlete, never weighed more than 145 pounds, was star athlete at Duquesne High School in Pittsburgh. Snyder also played professional basketball in and around Pittsburgh for over a decade, including a long stint with the Artz Club, a longtime independent powerhouse. Snyder also played basketball along side Hall of Fame baseball player , Honus Wagner who barnstormed in the off-season with his Big Five team. After retiring as an active player, Snyder embarked on a second, thirty year-long career, as one of the the most respected basketball, baseball and football officials in Western Pennsylvania.
