NICK GRUNZWEIG

Nick Grunzweig  was born and raised  in Buffalo, New York.   He graduated from Canisius High School in Buffalo  and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Niagara University. In addition to being a top student, Grunzweig was a standout athlete in both high school and college. After graduation from Niagara in 1942, Grunzweig served in the in the army for four year during World War II. After the war, Grunzweig signed to play for his hometown Buffalo Braves in of the National Basketball League. A month into the season , the team was transferred to Moline, Illinois. After just season in pro basketball, Grunzweig gave up the game and returned to service in the army. He retired in 1973 with the rank of full Colonel.

ACE GRUENIG

Robert “Ace” Gruenig was a ten-time AAU All-American. He led three Denver teams to the National AAU championships (1937, 1939, 1942). In 1948, at the age of 35, Gruenig made his professional debut in the National Basketball League and led the the Denver Nuggets in scoring with 11 points a game.  In 1963, Gruenig was elected to Basketball Hall of Fame.

ART GROVE

Art Grove led Washington High School to two consecutive Indiana state basketball championships in 1941 and 1942. Grove was a freshman starter for the University of Toledo before entered the army in 1942. Grove had limited success as a professional basketball player during the post-war years.
