Dick Dickey was a three-year starter at Pendleton, Indiana High School. He was recruited to play collage basketball at North Carolina State by Hall of Fame coach Everett Case. In Dickey’s four varsity seasons, North Carolina State was first in Southern Conference all 4 years and he was the only player in N.C. State history to be named All-Conference for 4 years in a row. In Dickey’s senior year, NC State went to the NCAA Final Four. Dickey played professional basketball for two seasons. In his rookie season (1950-51) , he was a starter year for the Anderson Packers in the National Professional Basketball League, but in his second season, he was a seldom-used reserve with the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association.

Alex Dick was a basketball and football star at Wyoming Seminary, a prep school in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Wyoming Seminary was a scholastic sports powerhouse that took on the top high school teams in Eastern Pennsylvania and also scheduled some games against college teams. Dick remained an extremely popular sports figure for many years in Wilkes-Barre, playing independent basketball. In 1914, when long-time Wilkes-Barre sports icon, George Keller, entered a team in the newly formed Pennsylvania Basket Basketball League, Dick was the first player he signed. By mid-season, however, their relationship had fractured and Keller released Dick, who soon signed with Hazleton where he completed the season. After sitting out a year, Dick had a successful comeback in 1916 with Plymouth. Dick served in the Navy for two years during World War I.
