TOM CARROLL

Tom Carroll attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn where where he led the basketball team in scoring for two seasons. Despite his diminutive size, Carroll was capable of dominating games with his shooting and passing skills. The team was coached by  famed pro basketball star, Rody Cooney, who was still active as a player with the Brooklyn Visitation.  At the conclusion of his senior year in 1934, Carroll joined Cooney on the Visitation and performed well in eight late season American Basketball League games.  Carroll had the talent to have a long career in professional basketball, but he chose another path in life. He was ordained as a priest in 1938.  Tragically, his life was cut short just six years later when he was  severely burned in a  freak accident at a barbecue with friends and family. Carroll died at the age of 44.
