L0u Spindell was a standout on the powerful City College of New York teams of the the mid 1930’s. Spindell was a talented scorer and an aggressive defender. During his three varsity seasons, CCNY compiled a 30-10 record. Spindell played professional basketball for ten seasons. His career was shortened by military service during World War II. In the early 1950’s, Spindell fell victim to the McCarthyite investigations of the New York Ciy school system. In front of a Senate sub-committee, Spindell refused answer any questions. As a consequence, Spindell was fired from his teaching position.
