PETE REIHER

STATISTICS & HISTORY

Peter Reiher was star athlete at St.John’s Prep High School in Brooklyn. He was a standout on the football, basketball and baseball teams teams. The basketball squad was one of the best in the city and Rehier was considered by many to be the best high school player in the city. Reiher entered St, John’s University in  the fall of 1924 where he landed a starting position on the baskeball team as a freshmen. He proceeded to lead the veteran team in scoring with astounding 13 points a game, an enormous figure by the standards of the era. In mid-March of 1925, just as the season was wrapping up, Reiher pulled off another surprise by announcing that he signed  professional contracts to play baseball with the New Haven team in the Eastern League and basketball with the Brooklyn Visitation in the American Basketball League. Reiher scored 10 points in two late season games with the Visitation, in what would turn out to be the only major league games of his career. Reiher played independent basketball in the Metropolitan New York area for a decade as a top scorer the Bronx Morris Park Caseys.
