STATISTICS & HISTORY
Tony Calland played professional basketball for sixteen seasons and semi-professional baseball for nearly twenty years. Calland played independent basketball for many teams. His most successful years where spent playing with the Union City Reds in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s. During the 1932-33 season, Calland and was the third-leading scorer in the Metropolitan Basketball League and was instrumental in Union City’s advance to the league finals. In the mid-1930’s, Calland began playing with the House of David, a popular touring team, that was sponsored by a religious sect hat required each player to grow a beard.
