MOE BECKER

 Moe Becker, along with Ed Milkovich and Paul Widowitz, was part of a  trio nicknamed the “Iron Dukes” who led Duquesne  University to a 51-10 record over three seasons.  In 1940, Duquesne became the the first team in NCAA history to play in the both the NIT and NCAA Tournament in the same season.  In 1941, Duquesne declined a NCAA Tournament bid to play in the NIT.  Becker, a was named 1st team All-American by Madison Square Garden in 1941. During World War II, Becker served served in the Army at the Aberdeen, Maryland Proving Grounds. He played for the base team, one of the most talented service teams  in the country and also moonlighted with American Basketball League teams in nearby Baltimore and Philadelphia. After the war, Becker played professionally in the National Basketball League,  the Basketball Association of America (the precursor to the NBA) and the Professional Basketball League of America. Becker returned to Pittsburgh after his playing career was over to coach at Baddock High School .

Becker played for his hometown Dayton Triangles for four seasons (1926-29) in the National Football League.

JAKE BEAVER

Jake Beaver graduated from Schenectady High School in 1910. He starred , along with his twin brother, Dave, in football, basketball and baseball at Union College in Schenectady. Union College posted a 35-5 record in basketball during the Beaver brothers’ three varsity seasons. In the fall of 1915, Jake moved to New York City to enter grad school at Columbia Universty.  During the next three years,  Beaver  played a handful of professional games in New York and for Nanticoke in the Pennsylsvania State Basketball League while attending Columbia.   Beaverreceived a PhD in Chemistry and taught at Columbia until his retirement in 1961.

FRANK BAUMHOLTZ

Frank Baumholtz was a first-team All American at Ohio University in 1941. He led the Bobcats to the 1941 finals of the National Invitational Tournament. After military service in World War II, Baumholtz turned to professional basketball in 1945 and finished   among the top-ten scorers his first two years in the game. On top of his scoring prowess,  Baumholtz  was admired for his hustle and positive attitude, which made popular with  made him extremely popular teammates and fans alike. Despite his success, he gave up pro basketball after just two seasons to concentrate on baseball.  During his ten-year major league career, he played for Cincinnati, Chicago and Philadelphia and posted a .290 career batting average.
